How to Motivate Yourself To Work from Home

Even though working from home is a new phenomenon for most people during this time, Magical Learning employees almost exclusively work from home as we are all located in different parts of the country. We are now seasoned in the art and discipline of being home a lot. It wasn’t always easy though, and you have to start somewhere. Here are a few tips on where to start if you haven’t found your rhythm yet.

1. Space

Create a space in your home to work. We don’t all have lots of space to have a dedicated office room in our homes, but set up a desk in a quiet corner of your home somewhere. Let the people you are living with know the intention behind the workspace and set it up as such. Don’t forget to add some homely touches to it so it feels comfortable to spend a lot of time in. Also, you can localise this space for other personal activities and projects that require a little space for themselves, whether it’s organising your paperwork, or doing some arts or craft.

2. Boundaries

Set boundaries. This is definitely easier said than done. Set boundaries for the time you spend in your workspace. Have clearly defined lunch and tea breaks. Just because you are home doesn’t mean you should be working all the time. Clearly distinguish between your days off and actual workdays. Rest is important for us to be our best selves, at home and in the office. It is especially important during a pandemic and trying to set a life-work balance.

3. Routine

It’s important to have a routine, and more important than that is to find a routine that works for you. Everyone is unique, everyone works and learns differently. You may have to trial a few routines around working from home as to what works for you, your boundaries, and your home life. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to create a routine but once you find one that works for you, use it. Remember to be adaptable though. A routine that works for you now may not be as useful a few months from now, so be open to adjusting and adapting.
